You Can’t Touch This…

Ok, I know this phrase was made famous by M.C. Hammer. I wasn’t really sure what “you can’t touch” so I googled it, listened to the song, wasted four minutes of my life to find out that “you can’t touch this” seems to apply to “the beat” of the song. I can’t believe that album sold 18 million copies! What were people thinking in 1990. Anyway, the phrase, “you can’t touch this” unfortunately applied to an entire class of people in the first century, the leper. Leprosy was often a deadly, contagious disease. If you had leprosy you could not lead anyting near a normal life. People didn’t touch lepers. But look at what we read in Matthew 8:1-3: When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. It is almost not possible for us to understand the magnitude of the phrase, “Jesus put out His hand and touched him,” You didn’t touch lepers…unless you were Jesus. Jesus did not fear touching a leper and in this case He healed the leper.

Do you have anything in your life that you think makes you “untouchable”?…an addiction, a fear, guilt, shame in some way or form? If you do, I assure you that Jesus is willing to touch you. Jesus is willing to take that sin onto Himself and take it away from you. Will you allow Him to heal you…to touch you? Just take your sin or your shame or whatever it is to Jesus, lay it at His feet and let Him make you whole and well. I assure you that contrary to M.C. Hammer, Jesus “can touch this”…and heal it.
