Yes, We Can “Know”

One of the most quoted verses from the New Testament is contained in chapter 8 of Romans.  It is verse 28:  “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” This verse is followed by an expression of God’s sovereignty which we will examine later.  There are some amazing words in this verse that I’d like to look at one day at a time.  We will spend a few days just on this verse because I believe that if you really understand and believe the words of this verse, you will greatly benefit.  The focus for today is the word “know”.  This is a word of confidence.  Paul isn’t suggesting that maybe all things work together for good or that if we pray hard enough that will happen.  Paul is saying that we “know”.  We can have absolute confidence that God is working things together for our good.  I understand that it doesn’t always look that way and there are seasons of life where we can begin to doubt this if we are not careful but when we begin to doubt, we can be reminded of these words.  You can know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the God who created this universe by speaking it into existence [don’t think that’s a big deal?  You try it!]  is actively involved in your life for your good.  You can “know” this.  God wants you to know this.  He wants you to trust Him based not on your feelings but on the fact of His character and His nature and His promise.  Not all doubt it sin but if you are doubting that God can fulfill this promise in your life, I think it might be time for good old-fashioned repentance of your lack of faith in the promises of God.  If you are not convinced, ask yourself “why?”  And then get help if you need it to help you to know that what God says here is one hundred percent true.  If you start out with knowing and trusting the truth of this verse, the rest of this promise can change your life!  Tune in tomorrow for “all things”.
