Wisdom’s Work on Our Behalf

Yesterday I commented on our effort in “mining” wisdom.  In these three verses we see several things that God does on our behalf through wisdom.  Let’s read Proverbs 2:7-9:  He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.  Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.

We see God doing several things here.  First, God stores up sound wisdom for the upright.  God never runs out of wisdom to give us.  This reminds me of the New Testament book of James where we are told to ask God for wisdom and He will give it to all men liberally or abundantly.  God is also a shield for those who walk uprightly.  Wisdom is like a shield in that it protects us.  No, wisdom won’t keep us from feeling pain, nor will it keep us from all suffering; but it will shield us from much harm.  When we make wise, godly choices, we tend to keep ourselves from too much trouble.  Verse 8 says that He guards our paths and preserves our way.  God is constantly watching over us and when we give wisdom a chance, I think we are more likely to be cognizant of what God is doing in our lives; which is what verse 9 tells us.

Because of our “work for wisdom” and God’s activity in this process, we will understand the things we need to understand.  As we are aware of God’s provision in our lives, our eyes are opened to the truth of what is around us…and we are blessed.

In Wisdom,
Eric
