Who or What is Your Inheritance?

In the Old Testament the word “inheritance” was an important word. The main asset was not currency but land. Land was passed down from generation to generation through inheritance. When God divided the promised land to the twelve tribes of Israel they were each given a portion of land as their inheritance but the tribe of Levi, the priestly tribe, wasn’t given land. In Ezekiel 44, God says this about the priests of Levi: 28 “It shall be, in regard to their inheritance, that I am their inheritance. You shall give them no possession in Israel, for I am their possession. God was the priest’s possession. Interesting isn’t it that in the New Testament the followers of Jesus are called “priests”. We have the same access to God that the priests of the Old Testament had, really, an even greater access.

So what is our inheritance..land…money…things? No, our inheritance is God. God has given us Himself. He doesn’t fade away. He doesn’t get worn down. He can’t get lost. He doesn’t need to be divided among a bunch of people. He is our inheritance. Are you taking advantage of the inheritance that you have been given? Please don’t waste time and effort trying to accumulate an earthly inheritance when you have been given an eternal one.
