Who or What is Being “Revealed”?

What many people think about when they think about the book of Revelation is the prophetic stuff…the antichrist, the mark of the beast, the destruction and the devastation. Unfortunately, over the years people have tried to find specific connections between things like locusts and helicopters. Others have used the events described in Revelation to try to pinpoint a date for Jesus’ return…despite Jesus’ words against this. But what is the purpose of the book of “Revelation”? In a nutshell the purpose is to reveal Jesus Christ.   Everything written in Revelation fits that ultimate purpose. In Revelation 1 we see this, even in the first four words of verse 1: “The Revelation of Jesus Christ”. John’s main point in writing this letter is that through Jesus Christ, God wins! I suggest you read chapter 1 slowly. Note all the things that John mentions about Jesus. Jesus “is and was and is to come”. He is a faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. He loved us, washed us in His blood, made us kings, is coming with clouds. Over and over we get revelation of Jesus Christ. The entire last section is a graphic description of Jesus in a symbolic way. John is revealing Jesus. Let’s read this book together with that in mind and see what God has in store for us.
