Where Do You Draw Your Strength?

In 1 Samuel 30, David’s home is pillaged and raided by the Amalekites. They took away his wives, children and possessions, as well as those of the other men of the city. We read this in verse 6: Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. I really like that last phrase. When David’s was down, very down, he strengthened himself in the Lord.

Do you do that? When things get really difficult, where do you go for strength? Unfortunately, many people turn to drugs or alcohol or attempt another form of escape. Others blame God or others for their troubles. But David strengthened himself in the Lord. David knew that God was his refuge and source of strength. Then David turned to God for advice and God gave him the next steps to do, which ultimately led to the restoration of what David had lost. I want to encourage you to strengthen yourself in the Lord. Read His word. Be around His people. You will never be disappointed in God. He will strengthen you and uphold you with His right hand.
