What Do Sunrises and God’s Mercy Have in Common?
One of the most well-known passages in the Old Testament is found in the book of Lamentations. Lamentations was written by Jeremiah and is a lament (thus the name “Lamentations”) over the suffering of the people of God. Here is what we read in chapter 3: Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” Each morning the sun rises in the East. Has anyone ever thought this wasn’t going to happen? I know that I have never once gone to bed wondering if the sun was going to rise the next morning, fretting over what I will do if there is no daylight. But I have gone to sleep wondering about God’s mercy and compassion. But Jeremiah writes that God’s compassions and mercies are new every morning. God’s faithfulness arrives right on time. We can hope in Him because of the consistent delivery of His faithfulness.
Are you trusting and placing your hope in the faithfulness of God’s mercy and compassion? They will be there for you, just like the sun…and no sunscreen will be necessary.
