We All Need a Little Help

In the nearly immortal words of the Beatles we read:  “Help, I need somebody.  Help…not just anybody…Help…you need I need someone…Help”.  We all need a little help…sometimes a lot of help.  In the next three verses Paul mentions some ways that God will help. “3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you.  Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.”  First Paul reminds us that God is faithful.  I hope you appreciate the faithfulness of God.  God will not move away from you.  He will establish you and then guard you from the evil one.  I hope you appreciate the help you need against the evil one.  Satan is real and is described as a roaring lion seeking to devour you.  An important step in receiving that help is to keep the Lord’s commands.  When we walk away from God’s direction we walk away from His help.  Then Paul prays that the Lord would direct their hearts into God’s love and the patience of Christ.  Wow, do I ever need that help.  I need to be directed into God’s love, for myself and so I can show that love to others.  I also certainly need the patience of Christ to work through me whether or not things are going the way I desire.  I can be patient, trusting that God’s work will be done through me.  If there are any areas mentioned by Paul that you need to think about this morning please spend a few minutes getting some help from God.
