Turned Off By the Blood?

I have one more thought about the blood of Jesus and the collection of hymns that speak to it and then tomorrow on to a different topic. It seems that some are turned off by the reference to the blood of Jesus. Some say that people are turned off by talking about the blood of Jesus and it just sounds “icky”.   This is interesting to me in a time and culture where vulgarity and violence are displayed and even celebrated in music and video. I hope you’re not turned off by the blood of Jesus. In the hymn, Nothing But the Blood, we are reminded how important this blood was and is for humanity. We are told that nothing can wash away our sin and make us whole again. Our pardon and cleansing come through the blood of Jesus. Only the blood, and nothing good that we can do, can atone for our sin. Our hope, peace and righteousness are found in the blood of Jesus. The atoning work of Jesus on the cross for our sin is incredibly important. There is nothing but the blood of Jesus that can bring forgiveness and the ability to live a life that is pleasing to God.
