Turn On the Light!

We have all been in situations where we desperately need light to see what is in the room.  Most of us have stubbed our toes or bumped into things that were right in front of us; simply because it was dark and we couldn’t see.  Just a little bit of light goes a long way in helping us to see things in front of us.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14-15:  14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Do you know that if you are a follower of Jesus Christ that you are the “light of the world”?  I think that if we take this in conjunction with Jesus’ other teachings and the writers of the New Testament we would understand that Jesus is truly the light of the world…we are simply reflectors of that light.  We see this same idea in the word “moonlight”.  We know that the moon has no light of its own; rather it reflects the light of the sun.  The same is true for the follower of Jesus.

As light we are to reveal who God is to others.  We are to help others see God in us as we live in this world.  Many cannot “see” God’s activity in their lives but by seeing us, perhaps we can shed a little light on the situation.  More on this tomorrow.
