Truth to Rest In and Get Busy About…

I was spending some travel time in my car listening to the psalms and praying through them so I got a little bit ahead of my normal reading schedule and finished Psalms. This morning I want to write about Psalm 139, a very familiar psalm and one that has so much truth. The psalm begins with a reminder of the sovereignty of God: “O Lord, you have searched me and known me…You know my sitting down and my rising up…Then the psalm continues with the fact that God is everywhere: “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” Then the psalm gets more personal, applying the sovereignty of God to my life and to your life: ‘For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb…”  There is so much more I could write. I so encourage you to read the psalm for yourself; here is a link to it Psalm 139.

There is so much here to rest in; to acknowledge that God “has this” in so many ways. I am not on my own and not only that, but the One who is with me is amazing and personally loves me. But we are not told this truth to just sit back and reflect. We are told this truth to get up and tell others. How could we not do everything possible to reveal this truth to others? People in our world so desperately need to know that this is how God could feel about them. They need to know that this God is available to have a relationship with them. May Psalm 139 encourage us to rest but also challenge us to get busy talking about our amazing God!
