True Independence

As we celebrate our nation’s independence I believe that Hebrews 4 has some great advice on how to stand independent from sin. Your country’s independence doesn’t have nearly as much value as your freedom in Christ. Let’s read what Paul says in verses 12-13: 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. This is a description of real freedom…no hidden secrets…no actions that need to be done in the shadows. The word of God lays us open. It is truly a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. I plead with you to make reading and meditating on God’s word a daily part of your life. The living word of God will both convict you and exhort you. If you are like me you need this consistent reminder because it is easy for my thoughts and intents to go in the wrong direction. Want true freedom? Open up the Bible or your app on your phone and read it and reflect on it.
