To Reveal or Conceal?

I really enjoy reading the two line Proverbs…short, pithy sayings that often have so much encased truth. Here is Proverbs 11:13 A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter. Proverbs has a lot to say about the power of the tongue and in this case, the negative power of the “talebearer”. In more modern terminology think “gossip”. The Bible is not talking about concealing evil or wrongdoing, but rather secret things about other people, information that is not for public consumption. So often we share things that don’t need to be shared. We talk about people in unflattering ways when those words just don’t need to be said. They make us feel better in some sort of perverse way but then we become a talebearer. Our friends need us to conceal the matter, keep it between as small a circle as possible. It feels good, in a bad way, to reveal but more often than not, it is better to conceal.  Anyone you need to ask forgiveness for revealing rather than concealing?
