Thoughts from District Conference…(I know that sounds boring but go ahead and read anyway)

This morning the following verse came to mind from Psalm 133:  Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!  Yesterday was my first experience at District Conference with the Church of the Brethren.  It was a good day.  I thoroughly enjoyed the ride down here with Eli Mast and Pastor Donita.  As is true for most conferences, the meeting part of the agenda is rather, shall I say, “dull”.  Though yesterday’s program contained two very entertaining skits.  But, if you come here for the meeting reports then I suggest you seek psychiatric help!  The real reason you come to these meetings is to meet people and reconnect with old friends.  Of course, being new to the District, I don’t have any “old friends” but I sure have made a lot of new ones.  Everyone here is very friendly and very supportive of me and Buffalo Valley.  I cannot tell you how many people shook my hand and congratulated me and wished me well with prayer.  It was a very encouraging day.  Then, Pastor Larry Densler (I think that’s how you spell his last name) from Bermudian Church of the Brethren preached one of the best messages I’ve heard in a long time.  He preached on the importance of personal purity, praying for one another and planting new churches.  The sincerity and passion in his words and voice were so evident.  I felt the presence of God in a special way and then we closed the meeting with a rousing “Crown Him With Many Crowns”.  I also got to sit next to Mark and Joan Hoffman who are delegates from Buffalo Valley.  Last night was topped off with ice cream from an “old fashioned” drive in restaurant where they take your order through a box that must have been constructed in the 40s or 50s and bring the ice cream to your car…very cool!!!

It truly is good for “Brethren” to dwell together in unity.  Yesterday was a great day.  For those of you from Buffalo Valley, thanks so much for sending me here this weekend.  I love each of you and am so excited to see God working in our midst.

Also, shared a room with Eli last night…he doesn’t snore!!!
