Thoughts Before Installation Service Today…

I was thinking about how special today is in my life, the lives of my family and the lives of the family at BVCOB.  Many people have prayed  and God has worked to bring us all to today.  My mind went to the passage in 2 Chronicles 1 which I’ve pasted below:

On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?”  And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to David my father, and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

Now, I’m not comparing myself to Solomon in terms of being a king.  A pastor is definitely not a king…though over the past two weeks or so I’ve certainly felt that I’ve been fed like a king…nor would I compare myself to Solomon in terms of wisdom.  However, my prayer this morning is similar to Solomon’s prayer.  “Father, I know that I can’t do this job on my own.  I’m not smart enough or savvy enough or experienced enough to pastor a church like Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren.  I can’t pastor “this great people of Yours” on my own ability and strength.  I ask for Your wisdom and your knowledge to flow through me, and all of the pastors and leaders at Buffalo Valley.  God, You and You alone can guide this church to bring You glory and for our good benefit as well.  Father, this morning I ask you to fill all of us with Your Holy Spirit, to guide us and equip us.  I pray that He will always be our Counselor and our Truth.  Finally, God I thank You for bringing me to this morning.  You have blessed me well beyond any possible measure I could have imagined.  May all that happens today and over the years to come be for Your glory and honor and praise…In Jesus Name, Amen.”
