The Wicked Are Deceived

I’m still working on Psalm 10.  I encourage you to read the entire psalm…it will take you about thirty seconds to do so.  For the past two days we have looked at some of the characteristics of the “wicked”.  We have seen that in writer’s description of the wicked he has focused on the fact that the wicked are deceitful and that they are also prone to attack or prey on the helpless.  This comes out of a study of verses 8-10.  Now, we turn to verse 11 and we see that not only are the wicked deceitful but they are also “deceived”.  Here is Psalm 10:11:  He has said in his heart, “God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see.”

The “He” in verse 11 is the wicked one.  The writer of psalm 10 tells us that another characteristic of the wicked is that the things that God is not paying attention; or that God has hidden from His people.  Admittedly, it does appear that way some times doesn’t it?   At times it appears that God is not watching, especially when the wicked prosper or when we are hurting because of what others have done to us.  But the wicked are deceived by thinking this.  The wicked are lulled into a false sense of security.   In verse 14 we read:  “But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand.  The helpless commits himself to You;  You are the helper of the fatherless.  God is not distracted or uncaring.  God is always watching.  God is always loving and God is always caring.  Admittedly, it doesn’t always appear that way but that is where faith comes in.  In the song, “Praise You in the Storm” by Casting Crowns there is a great line that reminds the listener that “God is who He is no matter where I am”.  My circumstances don’t change God’s love.  It is just that I can’t “see” love at the moment but I can trust that it is there.

God never shuts His eyes toward you, nor has He forgotten about you or your situation.  Continue to trust in Him.  Continue to draw near to Him.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED OR DEFEATED!
