The Real “LawMan”

I am not very much of a Western movie fan; however I do know that a very popular formula for the genre is when the bad guys ride into town and they are confronted by the “lawman”; a sheriff or a deputy or a marshal who represents what is right and good.  The lawman is often outnumbered and outgunned yet it is his responsibility to set things straight.  When I read Romans 7:21-25 I think that we see Jesus as the real “LawMan”. Here are the verses:  21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”  Paul describes the struggle that goes on inside of him, a struggle between the law of God and the law of sin.  There is a regular “gunfight” between the two.  We can read of his exasperation as he cries, “O wretched man that I am!  Who will deliver me from this body of death?”  The answer is Jesus.  Jesus has delivered him from the body of death.  Yes, the struggle is still real at times but the victory has been won. Jesus Christ is the “LawMan” that has defeated sin and death.  I hope that you have received the “LawMan” as your Savior and Lord.  I hope that you turn to Him for help each and every time the “bad guys” ride into town.  You won’t be disappointed in His ability to do what is right and good.
