The Power of Jesus

In Christian circles, or even in Christian rows, we often talk about the power of God.  We ask for and pray for God’s power.  But why do we pray for God’s power?  What do we intend to use God’s power for?  Thinking over this recently I’ve come to realize that I pray most often for God’s power for things that I want fixed or things that others want fixed.  Certainly it is biblical for us to talk about power in that way; but as I thought about it, I believe that many times, it not most of the times when God talks about His power in our lives it is for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I know that is the case in verses like Acts 1:8  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” and Colossians 1:28-29:  28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

I’ve been challenged to pray for God’s power for sharing the gospel.  God has asked me to consider praying for that kind of power.  How about you?  Seeing someone come into a relationship with Jesus Christ is more important than having my needs met; whether it be physical or material.  Seeing someone receive Jesus Christ is an eternal “transaction” where the power of sin has been broken for eternity.

This is the power that I long to pray for.  This is the power that I’m asking God to send my way…or better, for me to utilize more effectively.
