The Plain Truth Few REALLY Believe

Today I read John chapters 1-6 and several times in these chapters John plainly states that Jesus is God and that salvation from sin and entrance into heaven is only through Him. In chapter 3, verse 26 we have an example: 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” Without belief in Jesus, the wrath of God abides on you. I have come to believe that few people REALLY believe this. Do you believe it? The fact that most people who are followers of Jesus do not believe this explains the church’s lack of interest in evangelism and lack of interest in sacrifice. It explains why we are content to hear about all the people around the world who have never heard of Jesus and do nothing about it. Many simply do not believe the Bible, and have decided on their own that pretty much everybody gets into heaven, at least the people we know.

I encourage you to find three people who you think would identify themselves as Christians but who do not appear to make their faith a priority. Ask them if they truly believe that if a person does not believe in Jesus Christ that they will suffer the wrath of God. It is my theory and my experience that when pressed, people will indicate that they don’t REALLY believe what the Bible teaches. Most people believe that all dogs and all people go to heaven. But the Bible says something else…and it exhorts those of us who are Jesus followers to share the truth, the plain, repeated, truth of the necessity of Christ alone for salvation.
