The Perfect Gift for the Person Who Has Everything…or Anyone Else for That Matter

In Ephesians 3 Paul gives us an idea for the perfect gift. You probably have someone that you struggle with knowing what to give as a gift each Christmas. Perhaps your gift list is bigger than your budget? May I suggest that you give a “prayer” as a gift this year? Prayers have several advantages over many gifts….Prayers don’t cost any money. Prayers don’t shrink in the dryer. Prayers won’t lead to standing in long return lines after the holidays. Paul even gives you a model prayer to use to give to someone. Let’s read it here: 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. This is an amazing prayer. Can you think of anyone on your gift list that wouldn’t benefit from being “strengthened with might through God’s Spirit” or being “rooted and grounded in the love of Christ” or to “know the love of Christ which passes knowledge” or to be “filled with the fullness of God”? And you don’t even have to pay $19.95 plus shipping and handling.

I’m not joking about this. What if you took five people that you cared about and began to pray this prayer for each of them at least once each week? What if you brought these five people before the God of the universe each week and asked God to do the things mentioned in this prayer? I can guarantee an answer to this prayer has much more benefit than a sweater or a restaurant gift certificate. I encourage you to give the gift of prayer to someone you love this year. See what God does!
