The Mind of Christ

In 1 Corinthians 2 Paul emphasizes the value of the wisdom from God, from the Holy Spirit. He speaks to the fact that the Holy Spirit brings wisdom to us that we cannot receive from the world. He says, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. There is a wisdom that comes from God that is not related to IQ or educational achievement. Then Paul ends this section with an amazing sentence; “But we have the mind of Christ”. Hmmm…really? Can we have the mind of Christ? This is not the only time when this phrase is used. Philippians chapter 2 comes to mind where Paul says, “Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus…” Can we actually “think” like Jesus? Can we really have the attitude that Jesus had on earth? I think the answer to this question is “Yes”.

God’s Holy Spirit indwells each believer in Jesus Christ, the same Holy Spirit which ministered to Jesus while He was on earth lives inside of you if you have received Jesus as Savior. Our challenge is to live that truth out in the world…to yield our thoughts and attitudes to the control of the Holy Spirit. When we do that, we will truly reflect the mind of Christ in this world. That is what our world needs and that is also what we need. We are not going to get these attitudes and this wisdom right each and every time, but the filling of the Holy Spirit will lead us to exhibit the mind of Christ and that is an amazing privilege and responsibility.
