The Importance of God as Creator

The people of Jerusalem repented of their sin and began to reform their attitudes and actions. In Nehemiah chapter 9, the people gather to ratify a covenant that they made with God. Here is how they begin their prayer of confession to God: Blessed be Your glorious name, Which is exalted above all blessing and praise! You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.

Why do they start out their prayer of confession by confessing God as creator? What does that have to do with anything? In reality it has everything to do with everything. Many, many times in the Bible God is called “creator” or “maker”. God’s act of creation is foundational to who God is. If God didn’t create this world then He has no authority over it,,,and He is an incredible liar for writing a book (the Bible) that gives Himself credit for that which He didn’t do. A proper confession of sin begins with acknowledging God as creator. Again, if He didn’t create you, what authority does He have over you? If you evolved from chance, then God has no authority over you. This is one of the great lies of evolution. Evolution postulates the absence of God. Without God, then there is no accountability. Survival of the fittest is not a biblical concept, rather an evolutionary one.

I believe that many people who have embraced evolution cannot and/or will not embrace God. This has more significant consequences than they think. A God who is not a creator is also a God who is not a forgiver. The two are logically connected. Is your God a creator? If not, then He’s not the God of the Bible.
