The “Drift”

Have you ever noticed that when you swim in the ocean you get swept in the direction of the tide?  You don’t even realize it is happening but after a few minutes you notice that you are 30 yards to the right or left of where you started.  There is a natural current that takes you in that direction.  There is a natural current to sin that tends to take us in its direction as well.  Let’s read Proverbs 19:27:

Cease listening to instruction, my son,
And you will stray from the words of knowledge.

If a person seeks listening to instruction, they will not stay where they were at the time they stopped listening.  We move.  There is a drift to sin that pulls us in its direction.  If we stop following the plan and the word of God, we will stray.  There is no doubt about it.  We will always stray if we don’t actively pursue righteousness and the things of God.  This is a reason why it is so important to spend time in reading the word of God each day and to spend time in prayer.  If we don’t do that, we will drift….away from the words of knowledge and into areas that we don’t really want to go.

So don’t drift…swim to the Lord!

In wisdom,
Eric
