The Day After Christmas….Now What?

The Day After Christmas….Now What?

Christmas Day has now passed us all by.  It is time to recover from the parties and the cookies and the turkey and ham…well, there are still a few more days to eat the cookies, turkey and ham….  But what happens now?  There is so much “air” put into the Christmas “balloon” that when the air goes out, it leaves many people listless and lifeless.  It doesn’t have to be that way.

People often talk about the “Christmas spirit”  as if it is a short-term attitude.  But why does it have to be that way?  There is no special “spirit” that actually infects the hearts and minds of people around December.  But there is a special spirit that affects people….but why can’t that last the entire year?  It might not be possible to gather everyone together as family at other times of the year because people live far away, but perhaps it wouldn’t be as difficult as we think if we just tried a little harder.  It is not difficult to continue to be generous, to give of our resources and time to help others.  The “red kettles” go away but the needs of people continue well into the winter months and beyond.  The need to hear about Jesus Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection is just as significant in August as it is in December.

The Holy Spirit, who God has given to each of His adopted children, is not less powerful in January or July.  If you are someone who is more generous, more giving, more loving and more thoughtful of others at this time of year, why not continue the day after Christmas…..and beyond.  People need “gifts” that we can give each and every day of the year.

Merry “Day After” Christmas!
