The Dangers of “Junk Food”

I think we have all learned from a very early age that junk food can spoil your appetite. The problem is that junk food fills you up but it fills you up with stuff that’s not good for you, that has no nutrition. But because the junk food fills you up, you are not hungry for the good stuff. That’s what Peter is talking about in the beginning of 1 Peter 2. Here is what he writes: Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. You see, if we are “feasting” on malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, etc…we won’t desire the pure milk of the word of God. Those sins will spoil our appetite for righteousness and the things of God. We won’t want to read the Bible or take in God’s word because we will be “full” of the junk food. How is your spiritual diet? Does it consist of the things it should or are you taking in too much junk food?
