The Danger of Unbelief

In Hebrews 3 we read that Jesus is “better” than Moses. Moses was the first or second most revered person in Jewish religious tradition. Moses and Abraham were at the top of the list. But Jesus was “better” than Moses.   We are told that Moses was faithful in his house (or people) but that Jesus actually “built” the house…as God, Jesus put together the people of Israel. It’s an interesting way to show the superiority of Jesus. Then the writer turns his attention to the wandering in the wilderness. When you read about this 40 year period of time, mostly contained in the book of Exodus, you see how the people of God repeatedly rebelled against God. Here the writer speaks to the underlying reason for this rebellion. This is what is written in verse 19: 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Unbelief was the root cause of their sin. They refused to believe the promises God gave them and that unbelief led to sin and rebellion.

I think the same is true today. Sin is linked to unbelief. Salvation requires belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has always and always will be about “belief”. We must believe in Jesus Christ to be saved and we must believe the promises of God to live an effective, Spirit filled life.

Do you believe? The dangers of unbelief are too many to list. Believe the promises of God. Attack whatever stands in the way of your belief.
