The “Bigness” of God

Psalm 36 contains a contrast between the wicked and the righteous and a bit of a contrast between God and the wicked. I want to focus on the following two verses: Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. What struck me about this paragraph is the expanse of the attributes of God that David discusses. God’s mercy is “in the heavens”. God’s faithfulness “reaches to the clouds”. His righteousness is like the “great mountains”. His judgments are a “great deep”. We go all the way from the heavens to the deep. The ability of God to minister to His people is unlimited. God is really “big”. You and I are never outside of the boundaries of God’s activity. Please reflect on how amazing your God is and how He can reach you wherever you are and meet your needs.
