So…Much…Better…

I really encourage you to read Hebrews 9. After reading it this morning I feel like the tag line from the old Kellogg’s cornflakes commercial, “Taste it again for the first time”. I was struck by how much better Jesus is than the old, Jewish way. The writer begins with a comparison of the earthly temple and a heavenly temple. The first is an imitation, made by sinful, human hands. The second is a glorious creation, made by God and found in heaven. There is no comparison here. The writer closes with the greatness of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and how His blood was a necessary provision for the forgiveness of sin. There is so much discussion in the “church” today about why Jesus died and did He have to die. But it is so clear here in Hebrews 9. Jesus’ death was necessary because without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. It is not “new light” to think otherwise. May we exalt the person and work of Jesus Christ, whose death makes it possible for us to have new life. I hope and pray that the last words of this chapter: To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation apply to you. I hope and pray that you have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and know that you are saved, ready to spend eternity with Him.   Jesus is so…much…better!
