Sleeping Like a Baby…In the Lord
In psalm 4 David is talking about how men are out to get him. I think this was a common “problem” with being a king. That’s why kings have “food tasters”. We also know that before David became king he was being chased by king Saul. There were a lot of people who were after David. We see this in psalm 4: How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness And seek falsehood? There are many things in our world that can come after us, that are out to get us. Sometimes we think these things are worse than they are but in David’s case, there were some people who were really out to get him. How did David handle it? Often in the psalms we read of David crying out to the Lord. David understood that it was God who was able to fight the battles for him. David closes this psalm with the following words: You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. 8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. It seems that David was able to sleep at night. He was able to lie down in peace and sleep. The others were still out to get him but David knew that, no matter what, God was for him. The same is true for you when you are in Christ and when you follow Him you can have confidence in this great truth. So….goodnight, sleep tight!
