Returning God’s Gifts?

The couple of days after Christmas are big days for gift “returns” and exchanges.  I was in the mall last night and I’m sure many retailers were disappointed because the storm kept people away; but I’m sure that folks will be in the mall today and tomorrow returning gifts from Aunt “so and so” and Uncle “what’s his name”; gifts that they don’t like or that they don’t need.  It is an annual ritual of the Christmas season.  If we were able to total the amount, I think we would be staggered by the amount of money spent on gifts that are not needed or even wanted.

The follower of Jesus doesn’t have to worry about making a return.  James writes this in verse 17 of chapter 1:  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.  There are many reasons why God is such a good giver of gifts.  First, He knows what we need.  Second, He knows what we want.  Third, He loves us too much to give us something that would lead to our harm.  Fourth, He has unlimited resources.  I could go on but I think you get my point.

So, what gifts has God given to you?  Are you using the gifts?  I assure you that there is no need to return the gifts.  Even if something that God has given you seems a little strange, “keep it”.  I’m sure that you will see, sooner or later, why God gave that gift to you.
