Reminded…Again and Again
Some of you know that this year I am reading one proverb each day. Since there are 31 proverbs and 30 or 31 days in each month (except for February of course), it is possible to read through the book of Proverbs each month. So, I’m two and one half months through the year and I am reminded of how much I am reminded of the simple truths of God. Once again, I read something that I’ve already read several times: From Proverbs 13:12-14:
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. 13 He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.
Why does God repeat this again and again and again? Isn’t it because I need to hear it again and again and again! Words similar to verses 13 and 14 have been repeated many times up to Proverbs 13, and will be repeated many more times until Proverbs 31…yet, I need to hear it repeated because I need to be reminded. Those who despise the word will be destroyed but those who fear God’s word will be rewarded. It is simple truth. It is clear truth. But is it applied truth?
Father, forgive me for all the times I’ve gone against what I’ve heard and read time and time again. Please keep bringing this simple truth to my attention.
In wisdom,
Eric
