Proclaiming God’s Goodness
I’m glad to be out of the section of psalms where there was constant talk about the wicked. When I read Psalm 92 this morning it was like a breath of fresh air. This psalm is a praise psalm about the goodness and blessing of God. I’d like to focus on the opening two verses: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night,” I used to teach a class of elementary students back in the ‘80s and Janet and I would use song cards to teach short little songs to the kids and one of those songs because with the first verse of this psalm. As I read the psalm, the tune popped right into my head. I love how music does that. But anyway, it is a privilege that the people of God have to proclaim God’s goodness. I’m going to challenge you to something with these verses. I’m challenging you (without pouring any icy water on your head) to intentionally declare God’s lovingkindness in the morning and His faithfulness every night. I’m challenging you to be open for opportunities to declare this about God to others around you; at work, on the court, in your family. I think you’ll be surprised how much joy it brings to you to publicly declare God’s goodness. Also, I’m challenging you to spend a minute or two each morning on your way to work and then on your way home to express thanks to the Lord. I know that Thanksgiving is over, but let’s not let our giving of thanks to the Lord be over. Let’s proclaim God’s goodness in the morning and the night.
