O Holy Night

Today’s carol is O Holy Night; a carol that for me is really difficult to sing at the end. But the words are fantastic. The area I’d like to focus on is this: “The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger, in all our trials born to be our friend. He knows our need. Our weakness is no stranger”. I can’t fully grasp the idea of Jesus being 100% man and 100% God. I totally believe it and receive it but I can’t fully understand it. But I do believe that in His humanity, Jesus faced every temptation that we can face, yet without sin. I believe that God came in a human body to identify with us. He was born to be our friend AND our Savior and Lord. He knows our need and He will meet every need. We wonder why Jesus came as a baby and why Mary had to suffer the indignity of the reaction of others to her pregnancy. But that was the plan. God knew what He was doing. May we give Him the same latitude to work in our lives; even when He works in ways we would not desire. May the example of the baby in a manger and the suffering of Jesus demonstrate to us that God is on our side…every time and everywhere.
