Now That’s an Aftertaste!

Certain foods have nasty aftertastes…that sensation that comes after you’ve swallowed something or chewed on it for a while. Sometimes it even seems to taste good in the beginning but not so much after a little while. Proverbs 20:17 says this: Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.  The bread tastes good at first but the imagery of the bread turning to gravel is so vivid…I can almost picture the gravel spilling out of the mouth of the one in this proverb.

Sin often feels good when we first do it. It often seems like it delivers a great benefit…like the sweet tasting bread; but afterward, it spoils pretty quickly. Are you “chewing” on anything right now that you should spit out? I promise you that the aftertaste will not be good. Spit it out right now and then brush your teeth by asking God for forgiveness. That’s the right recipe for good, spiritual hygiene.
