Little Is Much When God Is In It

Anyone remember the old hymn, “Little Is Much When God Is In It”?  The chorus goes like this:
Little is much when God is in it,
Labor not for wealth or fame,
There’s a crown and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.

That song came to my mind when I read the following verses from Proverbs 15:  Better is a little with the fear of the Lord,
Than great treasure with trouble.  17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,
Than a fatted calf with hatred.

This little proverb is so very true.  If you have the fear or reverence of the Lord you have so much already.  It is much better to have a little of what this world offers with Jesus than to have everything the world offers without Him.  “Little is much when God is in it”.  Verse 17 deals with the importance of relationships.  The Bible is using the metaphor of sitting down to dinner.  I’ve always been blessed to have good family situations…not much drama around the Christmas or Thanksgiving table.  But I know this is not the case for others.

I would rather sit down to a dinner of herbs (think essentially nothing to eat) with people I love than to sit down to a seven course meal with those who hate each other.  The hatred sort of makes the food taste bad, no matter how delicious it looks.

So, if you are trying to decide priorities and plans in your life…what to put first and foremost, try to put Jesus first because truly, “Little is much when God is in it”

In wisdom,
Eric
