Verses 25-26 of Romans chapter 3 are amazing verses: ”25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” If we would just appreciate what we have just read, it should lead us to amazing worship! The blood of Jesus Christ is a propitiation, an appeasement, that God has provided for our sin. In His forbearance, God has passed over our sins (hearkens back to the Egyptian Passover from Exodus) and now He is the justifier of those who have faith in Jesus Christ. Focus on the idea that verse 26 says that God is “just”. It is just for God to justify us through Christ. It is not a “free pass”. It is not God doing something He should not do. Rather, it is just and right for God to justify us through faith in Jesus. God has established how we should be forgiven and we can relish the fact that His way is the right way!
