Jesus’ “Drop the Mic” Moment

The phrase “drop the mic” has become a part of our cultural lexicon. The idea is that when someone says something incredibly wise or funny or important, they “drop the mic”…thus punctuating the importance of what they just said. I’ve personally never had a “drop the mic” moment in my life…guess that lets you know how not witty and/or important that I am…of course, I also wear an earpiece for a microphone when I’m preaching so in order for me to drop the mic I would have to chop off my head…but anyway…. Jesus doesn’t really have a “drop the mic” moment but He does say something in Acts chapter 1 that really does warrant a “drop the mic” type of moment. In Acts 1 Jesus says His parting words to the disciples. They are these: And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus doesn’t drop the mic after saying these words but He does ascend in to heaven…which no other speaker has ever done!

Jesus ascends into heaven after saying these words. These words carry incredible meaning for subsequent followers of Jesus. Based on the power we have from the Holy Spirit, we are to be witnesses to Jesus in our local area and around the world. This is the primary purpose of the follower of Jesus…to be witnesses to Him. We are to be witnesses in both word and in deed. Are you doing this? Are you sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ? Are you giving to missions so that others can share this gospel in places where you cannot go? There are lots of important things that Jesus said. I suspect that the last thing He says should be very important to each of us.
