Is God Your Refuge?

Psalm 91 is about the safety of the presence of God. The writer pictures God as a bird that uses its wings to provide shelter and protection for its chicks. Now, God isn’t a bird and He doesn’t have feathers, but I think you get the point. The psalm opens with the following two verses: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Is God your refuge and fortress? When things get difficult do you run to Him to help you cope with the stress or the trials of life? When things are going good do you run to Him to help you cope with the success and bounty of life? God wants to be your refuge. God wants you to seek protection from Him. He doesn’t promise to remove all the suffering or the trials or the temptation but He does promise protection through them. It is up to us to trust that the “protection” that God provides is the kind of protection that is best for us and for His glory. Nothing can happen to you apart from God’s plan for your life. Seek refuge under the protective wings of God.
