Is God Good “All the Time”?

There is a popular Christian refrain where someone says, “God is good” and the second person says, “All the time”.  It’s a cute little expression but do we really mean it?  Unfortunately, my experience tells me that many people don’t really believe that God is good all the time.  When we get a job, God is good.  When we are healed, God is good.  When we find a spouse, God is good….at least for a few years anyway J  But what about when we lose the job, or we are not healed, or our spouse leaves?  Is God still good?  The answer is YES but we don’t seem to express it that way.  I’m not talking about a syrupy, fake or phony declaration but rather a deep seated, deep rooted understanding that God truly is good all the time.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to read the Old Testament book of Habakkuk.  It contains the words of a prophet named Habakkuk (cool name isn’t it?) who for three chapters wonders aloud about the goodness of God in the midst of difficult circumstances.  But at the very end of the book, this is what Habakkuk writes:

Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Yes, God is really good…all the time.  I pray that you have come to the same conclusion in your life…if not, contact me…I would like to help.
