If He Gave us Jesus…

Paul asks another important question in verse 32 of Romans chapter 8:  “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” This question comes on the heels of “If God is for us, who can be against us?”   The obvious answer is that God triumphs over any other person or thing that is against us.  God is FOR us in all ways and at all times.  The question today reminds us how much God is for us.  Since God delivered His own Son, Jesus, to provide atonement for our sin…since God “gave” [John 3:16] His Son for us, what would He not be willing to give us?  God demonstrated and proved His willingness to provide for us through the gift of Jesus. The enormity of that gift proves that God is willing to give or provide for us anything else.  Also note that phrase “with Him”.  These two words highlight again the need for Jesus Christ. “With Him” God will freely give us all things.  Now, I think you already know that this is not a “genie in a bottle” promise.  I wonder if the words “all things” here are a direct link back to the promise of verse 28 where we are told that all things work together for good….?  “All things” does not just mean what we perceive as good things.  God will provide for you whatever He desires for you. He is not limited in His ability or His desire to do what is required for you.  This is proven by His gift of Jesus Christ to you and for you.  If He gave you Jesus, He can give you everything and anything else that you need.
