“Idol” Business

Psalm 115 contrasts the care and activity of the true God with that of man made idols. The idols are said to have mouths without speech, eyes without vision, ears without hearing, noses without smelling, hands without handling and feet without walking. Idols are creations of men who seek a visual representation of a god. In my opinion, men create idols in an attempt to manipulate “god” or to manipulate other people. I think the latter is probably more prevalent. The ones who are in charge of the “idols” prescribe behavior for those who seek to please the idols and then often punish others when they don’t meet the standard. This is a temptation for those who worship the true God as well. God desires a personal relationship with His people, engaged in community with one another. My God can speak and hear. He can communicate with me and you. I’m very thankful that the business of my God is to help me and to guide me. The business of an idol is no business at all. Idols collect dust. God provides blessing and help.
