How God Is Not Like Football

I am writing this blog a few hours early which is what I often do for my Sunday blogs.  Tonight is the first round of the NFL playoffs.  I was thinking about how sad it is that two of the teams who are playing tonight are going to lose and their season is done.  Aside:  One advantage of being a Cowboys’ fan is that you are rarely emotionally invested in the playoffs these days!  I am especially “sad” for the situations where one player makes a big mistake and causes his team to lose the game.  There is no “second chance” for the playoff loser.  I find that a little sad.  Yes, there is next season but next season brings so many changes and often a team that is successful this year won’t even make the playoffs the next year…case in point the Baltimore Ravens who won the Superbowl last year but didn’t make the playoffs this year (sorry Chuck Smith).

But God isn’t like that.  God gives us second chances and we don’t have to wait for a new season.  God’s mercies are “new every morning”.  God is so faithful that He is willing to forgive us of our mistakes and our mistakes rarely disqualify us from “post-season” success.  If you feel like you have sinned your way out of the playoffs, I assure you that you are mistaken.  God can still get you back in the game.  Repent.  Confess your sin to God and get back in the game…there is still much to play for!
