Hey God Where Are You?

Have you ever asked God if He was going to show up in a situation, if He was going to actually do what He promised to do, protect who He promised to protect? Have you ever had emotion triumph over intellect…allowing what you feel about God to overcome what you know about God? I think that is what we have in Psalm 74, another psalm of Asaph. Asaph writes that God seems absent. The wicked are against God and His people and it seems like God has forgotten His own covenants and promises. Here is just one section where we see this attitude: “We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet;Nor is there any among us who knows how long. 10  O God, how long will the adversary reproach? Will the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?” It’s not that Asaph doubts that God CAN deliver him and that God CAN punish the wicked. Rather, the issue is that God is not doing that and Asaph wants to know why. There are times in the life of the follower of Jesus when God is just not doing what we want Him to do. If that’s not been the situation for you then you’re just not paying much attention. But I like what Asaph writes in this psalm. It’s an honest confession of a lack of understanding what God is or is not doing. I think God wants us to do that with Him. It could be that our willingness to open up in this way is a pre-requisite to being able to hear or receive an answer from God about our concerns. Don’t be afraid to let God know how you feel.
