Healing Waters

There is something so peaceful about water.     Standing by a flowing river or rushing rippling stream somehow refreshes my spirit.   I love to sit by our pond which is very peaceful, but I love even more to sit by the ocean as it beats upon the shore.  It’s waters are not still, but their vastness, power, and constant movement remind me of the qualities of God and I feel His peace in a special way when I am there.   (Beach Retreat countdown: 3 days 6 hours).

Ezekiel describes a river of healing in his prophecy.  It is a river that flows from beneath the door of the Temple where God’s presence inhabits.  Ezekiel writes in 47:6-12 (excerpts), “Then he led me back to the bank of the river. When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Sea. When it empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh. Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live….. 12 Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”  John writes about this River in Revelation 22:1-2.  “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

This picture is so beautiful.  I believe this river will be our joy and the center of our life in God’s eternal Kingdom.   But the reality is that God has provided for those who believe to enjoy this river now.  In John 7:38 we read the words of Christ, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”   This river is my source of healing, joy, and abundant life now…Is it yours as well?  If not don’t go another day without understanding how it can flow from within you.  Please call any pastor to learn more.
