Going Where No Man Has Gone Before…

When I hear that phrase I think of the opening of the old “Star Trek”. Captain Kirk says that the mission of the USS Enterprise is “to boldly go where no man has gone before”. This was also the mission of the apostle Paul. Paul took the gospel of Jesus Christ to pretty much of the known world in his day. Here is what he writes in verses 18-21: “18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— 19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 20 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, 21 but as it is written: “To whom He was not announced, they shall see; And those who have not heard shall understand.” I think this is still our responsibility. Not many of us will go where no one has gone before, though there are still many ethnic people groups that, as far as we know, have never had a gospel witness….so there’s still plenty of opportunity. But even if we don’t go we can pray, pray specifically that the gospel would go to unreached people. We can also give, give sacrificially for the spread of the gospel. We have a privilege to do whatever we can to the good news of Jesus Christ shared to our world. What’s your part?
