God’s Answer to Your Prayer

In Matthew 6:9-10 Jesus says, “In this manner therefore pray, Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”.  Why would Jesus open up His instruction on prayer like this?  I think Jesus starts this way because WE need to start this way.  When we pray we are in a position of dependence on God.  We are asking Him to do something which we will see later in the week.  But first and foremost we have to acknowledge that we want His will or His answer even more than we want our own answer.  Can you say that?  Really, can you say that?

Everything that happens in heaven is exactly what God desires….and it is really good.  Does it make sense that it would be different here on earth?  When we go to God in prayer, and ask Him for something we have to be ready to accept a different answer from Him than what we expect.  God is God and we are not.  He knows what we need and when we need it.

Another lesson in these words of Jesus is that prayer is not always about asking for things.  An important part of prayer is simply expressing to God worth and value as God.  His name is holy.  His name is worthy of our worship.
