God Knew and Knows You

I just started the Old Testament book of Jeremiah which is one of my favorite prophetic books in the Old Testament. In chapter 1 God says this about the prophet Jeremiah: Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” One of the great things about God is that He is not bound by time. I don’t think this kind of knowledge is unique to Jeremiah’s life. I think it is true for all of us. What does it mean to you that God knew you before you were born? It means a lot of things. It means that if you think you are too short, you’re not. If you think you’re too tall, you’re not. If you think you are in the wrong family, you’re not. If you think you have been shortchanged with skills or talents, you haven’t. You are exactly who God wants you to be. He’s given you everything you need to be who He wants you to be. Now it’s up to you to follow Him. It’s up to you to use your gifts for His purpose. He knew you before you were born and He’s never made anything other than fine and useful art!
