Getting More Than Expected

Don’t we all like to get more than expected? We love to buy products from a company or a service that overdelivers. When we make a request of someone, it’s great when we not only get the request, but we get even more.   When someone “throws something in” to the deal that we didn’t expect, it makes us happy. In Acts 3 there is a man that gets more than expected. After preaching his first sermon, Peter goes with John to the temple. There a lame man sees them. This man has been lame from birth. It is likely that he has never walked a day in his life. He spends his days at the temple begging for money. He sees Peter and John and asks for a handout. But he gets more than he expected. Peter says this to the man, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you; In the name of Jeuss Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. “ And the man is healed at that very moment. He wanted a small amount of money and he gets a changed life. God, through Peter, overdelivered.

I think that God always has a plan to overdeliver. When we ask God for forgiveness of our sin through Jesus we get forgiveness. Then we get eternal life. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we get the opportunity to experience abundant life on earth. We get the opportunity to have the Holy Spirit living in us, guiding us, comforting us, helping us. And we don’t deserve any of it. If you’ve received Jesus as your Savior, you’ve been given more than you asked for. I hope you understand that and I hope that you live in the power of what God has done for you.
