Faithfulness Rewarded…in God’s Time

Joshua chapters 13-18 are not the most riveting or interesting chapters in the Bible. These chapters primarily contain the boundaries of the promised land for each of the tribes of Israel. But in chapter 14 we are introduced to a man that we last met in Numbers chapter 13. His name is Caleb. Caleb and Joshua were the two spies who came through the promised land and said that God would give them the land. Joshua and Caleb were the ONLY men over the age of 20 who were allowed to enter the promised land. Every other male over 20 years of age died in the wilderness. In chapter 14 we read that Caleb was 40 years old when he and Joshua went to spy out the land. He is now 85 years old and he is given a piece of land that he desires. He is still as strong at 85 as he was at 40.

Caleb’s faithfulness to God was rewarded but he had to wait 45 years to see God’s promises to him fulfilled. How long are you willing to wait for God to keep His promises to you? All of us are tempted to give up or bail out on God when we don’t see Him working as fast as we want or as fast as we think God should work. But, like Caleb, we should wait for God’s timing. Is there something right now in your life that is trying your patience with God? Do you feel like God is late in delivering what He has promised? Wait on God. Still do what God asks. Caleb wasn’t disappointed and you won’t be disappointed either. Let God reward your faithfulness in His time!
