Does Conflict Keep You Quiet?

I mentioned before that Paul was run out of Thessalonica after what appears to be a short time.   What I didn’t mention is that before Paul arrived at Thessalonica he was run out of the city of Philippi.  Being run out of town was par for the course for the apostle Paul.  But it didn’t stop him.  Here is what he writes as chapter 2 begins:  “For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain. But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.”  I’d like to ask you to consider the following question:  ‘What amount of conflict causes you to keep quiet about the gospel?’ I’m certainly not advocating that you look for conflict or by arrogant/insensitive words or deeds you create conflict on your own whether that be in person or on social media.  However, do you quickly move away from conflict to the point where you are no longer an effective witness for Christ?  News flash::::Being a witness for Christ WILL bring conflict into your life.  It certainly did for all the disciples and it has for everyone.  The gospel often brings conflict.  Are you willing to endure the loss of a friendship or relationship because of the gospel?  Are you willing to lose a promotion because of the gospel?  You might lose something for the sake of the gospel but you gain much in your Father’s eyes by proclaiming the gospel in word and deed.  Let’s follow the example of Paul and continue to preach the gospel despite the conflict and pray often for those who create the conflict in your life.
